Guiding the Next Chapter

When Alwin first walked into the New Life Woodlands Centre at ten years old, he was a student in our Steady Readers programme, working hard to build his literacy skills. Today, just a year later, the Primary 5 student is still a familiar face at the centre, but his role has completely changed.

Having graduated from the programme, Alwin made the conscious choice to return. He wanted to give back to the space that had helped him grow.

Now serving as a reading buddy at Steady Readers @ Woodlands, Alwin stands alongside the teachers during weekly sessions, stepping in wherever he is needed. He starts with the practical tasks, carefully helping to mark the younger students’ homework to keep the classroom running smoothly. But his true impact shines when he sits down with the children, patiently guiding them through the pronunciation of challenging words.

Through these steady actions, Alwin has grown from a graduated student into a truly reliable pillar of support for the next generation.

His journey is a powerful reminder of how support comes full circle. By stepping up to guide the next generation of readers, he inspires the younger students and embodies the spirit of community that defines New Life’s mission.
