Learning to Flourish: Jai How’s Path to Confidence

Jai How, a quiet child, preferred staying home with family over playing with others. Raised by his grandmother and uncle’s family, he rarely saw his father due to long work hours and was separated from his incarcerated mother. In preschool, he struggled with language and math, disliked homework, and fell behind his peers.

His cousin, Jun De, stepped in to help. He encouraged weekend study habits and enrolled Jai How in New Life’s Steady Readers (SR) programme after a referral. Initially unsure, Jai How soon became interested in reading and began picking up new vocabulary.

“He’s more confident in speaking full sentences now… He may not read all the words, but he’s willing to try,” Jun De shares.

With consistent guidance and SR’s support, Jai How now approaches learning with curiosity and confidence, giving Jun De hope for a smooth start to primary school and a bright future.
