Jacqueline’s school years were a struggle marked by emotional hardship and isolation. She often skipped classes and eventually dropped out of secondary school, feeling lost and without direction. Her world changed when a caring counsellor introduced her to New Life’s Youth Hub, a place that would become her lifeline.
At the hub, Jacqueline met Joyce, a mentor who became her anchor through turbulent teenage years.
“The youth hub was my constant throughout my teen years. The mentors, especially Joyce, made it a safe space where I could try new things, make mistakes, and begin to believe in myself.”
But the road was not easy. In 2021, after enduring panic attacks and battling low confidence, Jacqueline faced her toughest challenge yet: starting an internship at New Life Student Care, a role Joyce had connected her to. Struggling with English and mental health, Jacqueline felt overwhelmed and hopeless at first, but this marked the beginning of a turning point.
Her supervisor’s compassion and a personalised growth plan helped Jacqueline reclaim her strength. She worked hard, passed her literacy exam, and was promoted to a full-time teacher aide.
“Now, I am more mentally resilient. Taking care of the children gives me purpose and confidence. I hope to inspire others, just as Joyce inspired me.”
